Iosif Mateiu, begun his musical endeavour in Romania at an early age and became a church pianist during his early teenage years due to his natural ability to improvise at the piano. After his immigration to Canada, he continued his piano studies with Alde Calongcagong who prepared him for a successful audition at the University of Windsor - School of Music.
During his university years, he had the privilege to study piano with Dr. Diana Dumlavwalla and later Dr. Gregory Butler who had a tremendous impact on his pianistic skills and teaching philosophy. He played in many recitals held by the University of Windsor and ORMTA and also participated in masterclasses with pianist Krista Vincent, and virtuoso Darrett Zusko. He received many awards outlining his dedication to education such as President’s Honour Roll (3 times) and Dean’s List (5 times). In addition, he was the recipient of University of Windsor In-Course Scholarship and Edith Margaret Bowlby Scholarship in Music. He graduated with Distinction from the Honours Bachelor of Music program and continued his study in the Faculty of Education becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher - intermediate/high school division.
Iosif had the privilege of performing in many churches in USA and Canada, such as Detroit, Chicago, Hollywood FL, Portland, and Kitchener. Currently, he is active as a church pianist/musician, and choir director for the Teutonia Choir.
He is married to Ema and together they have three children Alexandra, Iosua, and Daniel.
