The secret of good teaching is to regard the child’s intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination. Our aim therefore is not merely to make the child understand and still less force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination to enthuse him to his innermost core. - Dr. Maria Montessori
Program highlights for Grades 4-6 (the Intermediates)
Lakeview Montessori follows the Montessori philosophy of education for all students in grades 4-6, and the Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines for all elementary students. Each school year begins with a team-building retreat and ends with the “Odyssey of the Mind” national/international competitions.
Higher elementary students aged 8 to 10 years old begin the transition from Montessori to work with hands-on materials to complete daily and later weekly assignments, which are structured to their level. They complete projects, which are presented to their class, and build their confidence and skills with success in a variety of challenging assignments.
Leaders in Technology are provided with iPads to use interactively with smart boards at school, and all home-work and assignments are conducted through the online medium Google docs.
After school enrichment Programs are offered based on demands such as:
- Technology, Theatre, Lego & Robotics, Chess, Drumming Circles, Music & Art, Study Hall, Sports & Fitness just to name a few.
