When possible I make time to meet and greet families and students as they arrive each morning to our amazing school. The energy and enthusiasm the students bring resonates throughout Lakeview’s halls and playground.
As we embrace the new school year, I would like to acknowledge 2017-2018 as another successful school year for Lakeview. Each and every student, faculty and parent has been key to the success of our school. The dedication to excellence and drive to reach our potential this year was evident in so many of the accomplishments during the school year. From science awards, oratorical awards, music awards, athletic awards, the students of Lakeview surpassed all of our expectations. Our amazing faculty have supported and encouraged your children to be the very best they can be. From the toddlers and Casa students singing songs in Mandarin to the elementary students who experience “survival skills” at Gesstwood Camp, this school year has been exceptional.
Registration for the 2017-2018 school year has surpassed all of our expectations. For the first time in the history of Lakeview, we are now home to four Casa classrooms and we are proud to say there is a waiting list for some of the senior classes. The Arrowsmith program continues to stretch the boundaries of exceptional learning and this year there will be six places available for new students who wish to join Lakeview and participate in the program. The numerous stories from parents and students on individual success stories are heart-warming.
Our plans to raise the bar in education are progressing well. A visit from members of the Canadian Association for Independent Schools (CAIS) was highly enlightening and rewarding. The accreditation team made the decision in 2015 to accept Lakeview as a ‘candidate’ school. Since then incredible work took place on the part of the Board of Directors, Faculty, Staff, and students in preparation for the onsite visit which took place in May 2017. While we await their review report, we continue to work through the accreditation process which will hold Lakeview to the highest of standards.
Moving forward with the strategic plan for enhancing the facility, work was completed on the exterior and interior of the main building. The whole lower level is newly renovated due to the flood of 2016 and the toddler playground development was completed this summer. A very special thank you to the building committee who helped to make many of these wonderful opportunities happen!
Lakeview has worked together with the community to provide incredible learning opportunities for students past and present and continues to do so as we embrace the global complexities of a 21st Century world. As we celebrate our 40th Anniversary in 2018, I would like to thank each and everyone of the Board members, faculty and families for your contributions and support. I am honoured to be able to play my part in this process and to truly make a difference in the lives of your children.
