Innovative Arrowsmith Program
receives boost from
Rafih Style Magazine
Newly launched instructional course uses neuroscience to help children learn (Windsor, Ontario, September 16, 2014) – The recently launched Arrowsmith Program at Lakeview Montessori School will receive another local boost thanks to a fundraising event planned at Overseas Motors BMW on Thursday, September 18 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Rafih Style Magazine Charitable Organization will give a special cheque presentation at 6:30 pm.
The Arrowsmith Program uses the principles of neuroscience research to help children with specific learning challenges strengthen their cognitive capacities. As plans developed to bring the program to our region, the initial momentum attracted local donors and private foundations who were eager to support the only offering of its kind south of Guelph. Commonly described as “physiotherapy for the brain,” 16 students are now enrolled in the program and are cared for by two specially trained teachers within a uniquely designed classroom.
Psychologist Barbara Arrowsmith Young founded the program in Toronto 30 years ago to address her own learning challenges. This three or four year program has been proven to be effective for those seeking enrichment in reading, writing, mathematics, comprehension, problem solving and dyslexia to name a few common challenges. The program’s success has expanded across Canada, throughout the US, Australia and New Zealand and is now available in the Windsor-Essex region.
Local sponsorship has made this innovative program more affordable for families who pay $5,000 for the program itself, in addition to Lakeview’s annual fee, which is a less expensive option than tuition for the same program in Toronto. The donation from Rafih Style Magazine will be used to purchase specialized seating and study areas for the classroom.
“I am so very grateful for the Rafih Style Magazine donation, and the opportunity to celebrate this unique program that is now available locally. When we work together for the children of our community, one can only imagine the possibilities for their future,” says Prof. Harris, Head of LMS school.
“We’re always proud to support worthwhile organizations that challenge themselves and do good work in our community,” says Tony Catalano, President of Myndlogic Publishing and Publisher of Rafih Style Magazine. “In our business, we’re in regular contact with prominent employers throughout Windsor and Essex County, so we know more than most that the job market in our region is changing. We believe that responsive, creative, and progressive educators are needed now more than ever as we prepare our children to live successful adult lives in this environment. We really believe that LMS is a neighbourhood school with a global outlook, and we’re honoured to play our small part in its continued success.”
The mission of Lakeview Montessori School is to offer an exceptional learning experience in a centre for academic excellence that pushes the boundaries of creativity and innovation. Our promise to our families is to guarantee a unique and inspiring learning curriculum with individualized plans for each student; a safe environment in which to encourage leadership and creativity; and a learning culture that celebrates the differences and similarities that make each of us unique.
